Innovative Studios

Innovative “green” art studios

It has been my dream and goal for quite some time, to design an innovative art studio that would foster my creativity and be a demonstration of possibilities regarding alternative energy, great passive solar design, economical construction and an example of practical and safety concerns. I wanted it to be a showcase to inspire other artists to consider their space differently. I have always thought of my studios as unique custom spaces that facilitated the best use of space and provided inspiration from the comfortableness and the intention of the space.  The facilities provided the best light, air quality and amities that I could create and afford. Each studio I have had improved and informed me of better and better ideas about construction and design. An atelier should be personally designed and connected to its purpose and as considered as the artwork created in it.

Artist and printmaker, Douglas E. Taylor in his Lake Tahoe studio
outside his little Lake Tahoe studio

This Lake Tahoe studio was 9x14 feet, insulated, great natural and artificial lighting, gas heat and ventilation. The 3 by 12 foot long intaglio etching press occupies a good portion of the space.

I have specific ideas about the aesthetics and functionality of my newest studio that will built in Montana.  It will be extremely “green” and will accommodate my needs as an artist: a place to work and a space of inspiration.

The studio will have the name of Felicity: 1. happiness, bliss  2.  Anything producing happiness; good fortune  3.  quality or knack of appropriate and pleasing expression in writing, speaking, painting …

As the Felicity project progresses there will be updates on this site.
