It has been my dream and goal for quite some time, to design an innovative art studio that would foster my creativity and be a demonstration of possibilities regarding alternative energy, great passive solar design, economical construction and an example of practical and safety concerns. I wanted it to be a showcase to inspire other artists to consider their space differently. I have always thought of my studios as unique custom spaces that facilitated the best use of space and provided inspiration from the comfortableness and the intention of the space.  The facilities provided the best light, air quality and amities that I could create and afford. Each studio I have had improved and informed me of better and better ideas about construction and design.

Lake Tahoe art studio
Artist and printmaker, Douglas E. Taylor in his Lake Tahoe studio, c. 2008

This Lake Tahoe studio was 9x14 feet, insulated, great natural and artificial lighting, gas heat and ventilation. The 3 by 12 foot long intaglio etching press occupied a good portion of the space.

Felicity - home and art studio in Montana

east facing art studio door of Felicity

The inspirational view of Como Peaks is the view from the south facing studio window.  The east facing French doors have replaced the original non-insulated garage door. There is another insulted six lite insulated door facing west.
The electric lights are in the process of being improved.  This winter I will be adding some foam board insulation under some sheet rock, over the existing flat log walls.  There will be photos posted here as I progress.

Two American Bald Eagles flying over Felicity, October 2012
my hand built intaglio etching press, 25 inch rollers, bed is 30 by 74 inches
a print in progress under the felt blankets that cushion each print as it is

These are several merged photographs of two bald eagles flying and soaring above Felicity. There is a red tailed hawk nest about 100 yards away in the top of an old cottonwood tree.  I have also seen a great blue heron and a pileated woodpecker fly over Felicity. Of course there are many Canada geese that have flown over as well and there are several white tail deer that frequent the property.

These are several of my photographs documenting the four seasons of Felicity.  More to come...

Felicity
There is a gate that is always open
and a home called Felicity
A place of inspiration
and a way of being

Open to the sky and the seasons
With a stream that flows
Where dreams grow like flowers from a painting
and a song from the wind
When rain and sunshine shower
and fall like snow

And a home can be built among the trees
Where love can flower and the garden nourish
and the stars cover sleep
and comfort and peace flourish

I come home to Felicity
A place to play my heart
A place to be with the source
and surrender the day
Making my art with those things I find and dancing
with the child in me
Felicity is a few acres to be quiet on
and space enough to think out loud

We can walk to the little village and we can
follow the river to town
And when we go away and we return,
we come back to that look in our eyes
We are happiness and bliss and the music
of the sound of Felicity
